Having proudly been educated at ODU’s counseling program with a concentration in clinical mental health, I believe that my greatest ability is garnering trust and meeting people where they are. This comes from my experiences in a variety of work environments. Residential, intensive in-home counseling, and support groups are among the different capacities that I have worked and trained.
My experience includes pre-teens and adolescents who were affected by depression, family disruption, bullying, trauma, anxiety, sexual assault, aggression, and other behavioral disorders. I employ a range of techniques to help clients overcome these challenges.
In addition to adolescent populations, from 2010-2016 I supported military veterans in recovery by facilitating psycho-educational groups, providing crisis interventions, and enhancing job seeking skills as part of the Veterans Affairs Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program.
My approach to each individual client is strategically tailored because all people are unique. CBT and person- centered therapy are among the primary modalities that I use. Creative arts or spirituality are additional tools that I may also utilize. Lastly, as an army veteran and former basketball coach I am no stranger to buildin For 10 years, I have worked with children, adults, and the needs of their families. I have worked at Laurel Ridge Treatment Center in San Antonio, Tx as a group and individual therapist. While in San Antonio, I worked closely with active duty military and their families providing individual counseling while working in private practice. My speciality was marriage and family counseling and overall individual therapy. I was able to provide counseling to those who were mandated to attend counseling due to court appointed therapy as well as Child Protection Services for 8 years. I am also currently a Military Family and Life Counselor for the military branches in the local Va area.
My concentration is with patients, regardless of age who suffer from depression, anxiety, domestic violence, family problems, PTSD, low self esteem, behavior issues both at home and school, marital problems as well as pre-marital counseling.
I am sensitive to the needs of all cultures and lifestyles. I am knowledgeable in the various counseling techniques. I incorporate the counseling techniques based on the individuality of each patient. I will ensure that I provide a high level of respect, care, and integrity to each patient. My goal as a therapist is to help the patient establish a new aspect on their lives through self forgiveness, mindfulness, and emotional release of any issues that act as a barrier in their healing.
